For thousands of years on this planet thinking man has upheld his own spirituality and considered the ultimate wisdom to be spiritual enlightenment. The new radical thought that man is an animal without a spiritual nature has a name: totalitarian materialism. Materialism is the doctrine that "only matter matters."

Now and then you hear me speak derisively of governments and ideologies – including democracy. If, by seeing I criticize an ideology, anyone seeks to believe I embrace its opposite, he has failed to get the point. The basic building block of any political system is the individual. you can't have masses which aren't made up of single units.

One must bring about change and be able to handle it. Man is basically good but can act badly. True greatness merely refuses to change in the face of bad actions against one. Why should one change and begin to hate just because others have lost themselves and their own destinies are too cruel for them to face. One must act, one must preserve order and decency, but one need not hate or seek vengeance.

Any fixed idea, is stuck on the time track. Any fixed idea is stuck on the time track. So the number of ideas a person has over which he cannot exercise judgment determines how far out of PT he is. He's that far out of present time to the degree that he has fixed ideas which cannot be altered by his own judgment.

A spirit seeks to advance, to improve. Each way is blocked. This universe knows only how to decay. Can we escape? Yes, it is possible. We have it in Scientology now. I have found it and charted it. I know exactly how to open the gate. What is the way out? With no excuses, no byroads. Straight out. All the way.

The Art of Remembering and of Forgetting: In Homo sapiens there seems to be a fundamental fear of forgetting. It manifests in the feeling that one must not forget. Thus one hold on to memories and do not complete the cycle. Everything is cluttered. To bring order into an overcrowded mind, one must first create empty space.

When we consider that a great deal of what we now know with great exactness was already known and lost thousands of years age, we begin to see that we are not dealing with something new when we are dealing with Scientology. It is not something new.

We are reasonable about so many things. The sheer amount of it is frightening. Humanity is trapped in Reasonableness worse than someone who has sunk into mud and digs himself in deeper with every movement – unable to get out without external help.

An individual becomes aberrated by additives. His experiences in this universe are usually calculated to degrade and depower him. All you have to do is pick up all of these criss-crosses; you return him to power.

As an individual goes up the tone scale, he is more and more of the dynamics and he is more in each dynamic. You expand your space into the dynamics. You expand your control, your knowledge, and your responsibility into the dynamics.

Now, there can be chronic tone as a body plus thetan, or there can be chronic tone as a thetan. And chronic tone of body plus thetan can be apparently at enthusiasm, whereas…

If Self-determinism is defined as "maximum affinity, reality, and communication," it must be high on the tone scale.

The word control has a nasty connotation. But it is really about something else.
